Weekly Update

February 23, 2024

Dear Parents, Staff, and Families of SAU 90:

It has been a very busy week here as we gear up for the winter break.  Students have been working hard in their classes as units wrap up and assessments are completed.  During my walk-through earlier in the week, I saw first-hand the complicated math students were working on, reading assessments being administered, and engaging literacy lessons and activities.  Be sure to check out our Facebook post, which features our Marvelous Marston Students who are hard at work.

The PTA met this week in the Community Room at Hampton Academy.  During that time, Finance Director Mariah Curtis and I, along with students Jack Hafey and Nathan Goupil, had the opportunity to review the warrant articles, which the town will consider at the polls on March 12. The PTA is offering some fantastic, exciting events for our families in the coming weeks.  These events cannot happen without the support of our community.  Last week, I sent out a link with a survey.  Please be sure to complete this as soon as possible so that planning efforts can get underway.  Many hands make for light work!

A reminder that the New Hampshire Fair Funding Project has a School Funding and Property Taxes presentation coming to our district the Tuesday after we return from the winter break, on March 5.  This will be hosted by SAU 90 and 21 at Hampton Academy beginning at 6 PM in the cafeteria.  The purpose of this presentation is to review the current model and to discuss ways we can work towards a more equitable approach.  This 40-minute presentation will allow for questions and answers.  We hope to see you there.  Please remember to register below.

In our efforts to collaborate with students, staff, and families, our SAU 90 website hosts a See Something, Say Something tip line.  The purpose of this link is to provide anyone who may have information that they feel the schools should be aware of a place to do so.  Tips can be submitted anonymously and are monitored 24 hours a day, 7  days a week.  Please remember that it takes a village to ensure that everyone is taken care of and their needs are met.  We encourage anyone with information that may be helpful to our schools to reach out.

Saturday, March 2 is the official Read Across America date, which is also the birthday of beloved children’s book author Theodor Geisel, or the great Dr. Seuss.  We celebrate literacy every day here in our schools, knowing the impact reading and writing has on student learning and success!  To that end, some great activities will be planned with our students and the schools when we return from the break.  In honor of this day, we encourage everyone to read a great book over the winter break.

Warmly,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
Superintendent
