Weekly Newsletter from the Super Intendent 2/10/2023

February 10, 2023

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

This week, we marked our 100th day in school. Students at Centre School and Marston School marked this day with warm spirit days, lessons, parades, and activities that contributed to our students’ learning and well-being, all while having some fun. I hope you enjoyed the picture of our third-grade staff dressed up for this day on our district Facebook post. Sense of humor and joy is often just what is needed in our busy days and weeks to remind us of the happy moments we can capture.

As a school district, we continue to recognize the importance of building community while focusing on the students and their individual needs. While listening to the daily news in our region and around the world, it is upsetting to see so many events that impact our world. Whether you listened as we learned about the 22,000 people who have been killed in the earthquakes in Turkey or Syria or scan the newsfeed on your phones, at times there seems like there is so much that can worry all of us. Yet, rescue efforts continue, community gatherings and vigils are held, and time again help to restore a sense of hope and unity as we come to understand and move forward.

With that said, often the best part of my week is on the days when I have the pleasure of being in schools, and I can see all the wonderful lessons, learning, students, and staff engaged in learning. This week, I had the opportunity to spend time at Hampton Academy. I marveled at the science lessons, listened intently as students worked in cooperative groups, celebrated a special birthday, stood in awe at the number of sneakers collected for a fundraiser, and acknowledged the hard work of our school counselors in honor of School Counselors Week. Additionally, I noticed the connections that had been made with the students and the staff. It was evident that this was a community of learners that seemed happy and content to be in school learning. Please be sure to check out my Facebook post to enjoy these delightful moments.

I have been asked to share that the New Hampshire Department of Transportation is holding a Public Open House on Saturday, February 25, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM at the Seashell Complex Banquet Room on 180 Ocean Boulevard in Hampton. The purpose of this event is to present citizens and public officials with information regarding the potential improvement options to the 3.3 Ocean Boulevard corridor. They are looking for public input to ensure that project decisions meet public transportation needs and community goals while protecting and enhancing the environment. For info, click HERE

Special thanks to Hampton Academy and Lane Library for hosting the Valentine Tea this weekend. Next week, Hampton Academy 8th Grade will be hosting Dining for a Cause on Monday, February 13 from 4 – 9 PM at the Community Oven. Please be sure to mention Hampton Academy when you pay your bill. On Friday, Hampton Academy will be having a
fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. All proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Wishing you a lovely Valentine’s Day ahead,

Warmly,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
