Weekly Update

December 9, 2022

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

We wish to thank everyone who attended the holiday parade last weekend.  Although the weather was uncooperative, it did not dampen the holiday spirit of our staff, students, and families who showed up to walk with our district.  We are truly hardy New Englanders who showed up to “kick-off” the holidays. As a reminder, should you or your family need any support during this time of the year, please be sure to reach out to Ms. Emily Fixler, our School Outreach Worker at efixler@sau90.org.  She is working with area agencies to ensure all of our families have a happy and healthy holiday ahead.

We wish to thank the Hampton Police Department, especially Chief Hobbs and Deputy Chief Reno for their oversight and guidance yesterday.  As you are probably well aware, yesterday morning New Hampshire schools around the state received active shooter threats, which were deemed to be a hoax.  Although this was very unsettling for our community, rest assured, we were taking every precaution to keep our school’s safe.  The NH Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued the following news release:

NEWS RELEASE NH DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY MONITORING ACTIVE SHOOTER SCHOOL THREATS CONCORD, N.H. – The Department of Safety is aware of multiple calls reporting active shooter threats at schools throughout the state. Multiple state agencies are assisting local law enforcement agencies that are responding to those calls and with the investigation into those calls. The New Hampshire Information Analysis Center is heavily involved in coordinating these investigations. Other jurisdictions across the country have reported receiving hoax calls. At this time, these reports are believed to be a hoax. However, all threats will be taken seriously until such time as their validity is determined. Everyone is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency.

The safety of schools continues to be our top priority, and we will continue to keep you updated on any new information.

To that end, we are in the process of assisting with fingerprinting as part of the newly adopted policy GBCD.  As a reminder, a “Designated Volunteer” is any volunteer who:

a) Comes in direct contact with students on a predictable basis

b) Meets regularly with students

c) Meets with students on a one-on-one basis

d) Any other volunteer so designated by the School Board or Superintendent

On our website, under the Staff & Community Resources tab, you will find the fingerprinting and background check process.  This will include an overview of the process and application for a fingerprinting appointment.  The link can be found here.

Report cards will be emailed out Monday afternoon and available through the ALMA portal, our student information system, for the first trimester of school.  If you need any assistance with accessing the portal, our District Data Coordinator, Tim Smith can be reached at tsmith@sau90.org.

This weekend, please join us as the Hampton Academy Players present, “Frosty, the Snowman” on Friday and Saturday evening in their auditorium beginning at 7:00 PM.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, and hope to see you at the show!

Warmly,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
