Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Tomorrow is the Hampton Holiday Parade.  Experience Hampton puts on this event in their efforts to bring families and visitors in our downtown together to celebrate the start of the holiday season.  This is the largest holiday parade in the state of New Hampshire and has been in existence since 2010.  This year, the parade’s theme is, “It’s Only A Movie!” honoring Desi Lanio former owner of the 401 Tavern and a big supporter of the Hampton Schools and the Hampton Parade!  SAU 90 staff, students, and families are invited to join us as we ring in the start of the holiday season.  We will be assembling at 12:00 PM at the Ginger and Clove parking lot on 881 Lafayette Road.  The parade starts at 1:00 PM sharp with road closures happening around 12:30 PM.  Although there are concerns about tomorrow’s weather, we have heard that this event will be happening rain or shine.  Please dress accordingly with rain ponchos, umbrellas, and appropriate footwear.  We hope to see you marching with us or viewing along the parade route.

There continues to be legislative changes that impact laws, policies, and practices.  These changes are reviewed at sub-committee meetings, vetted by lawyers, and then voted on by the school board.  Some of these policies are considered priority and are required by law.  One that we felt should be brought to your attention is Policy GBCD: Background Investigation and Criminal History Records.  Under this updated policy, all “Designated Volunteers” must be fingerprinted for a history of records and background review.  A “Designated Volunteer” is any volunteer who:

  1. Comes in direct contact with students on a predictable basis

  2. Meets regularly with students

  3. Meets with students on a one-on-one basis

  4. Any other volunteer so designated by the School Board or Superintendent

A copy of the entire policy can be found here. Should you require fingerprinting, please contact Administrative Assistant, Kathy Tuck at the SAU Office. She can be reached at 603-926-4560, ext. 301 There is a one-time fee of $21.25 which is valid for all schools and throughout your time volunteering in our district.  We realize that this is a change in policy and practice.  We must all work together to ensure the safety of our students while upholding state statutes.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

In the spirit of the season, we know that there have been and continue to be a number of collections happening around the district, town, and nation.  We appreciate all of the donations to our troops, families, eighth graders, and students as we ensure that everyone has a happy holiday season.  With that being said, if you or your family could use assistance, our Outreach Worker, Emily Fixler is here to help you.  She can be reached at 603-926-2000 at Hampton Academy or on her cell phone at 603-858-9810.  Our greatest wish is that everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season.

See you at the parade!

With Hampton PRIDE,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
