Weekly Update

February 4, 2022

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

Well, it looks like Punxsutawney Phil is right!  According to the legendary groundhog from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, we are in for six more weeks of winter!  With that being said, our district decided to have students participate in remote learning today.  Although, there was a decision to bring back the “traditional snow day,” we also decided that this would be balanced with our academic calendar.  As much as everyone enjoys a snow day in the winter, no one enjoys making up a snow day in June.  Please know that we will more than likely continue to have inclement weather.  We will certainly strive to find a balance between giving our community a snow day while being mindful of the school calendar.

I had the opportunity to visit with the Centre School students this week.  And they were very busy with their literacy activities that morning.  It is so amazing to watch our youngest learners make such strides in their reading, writing, and math skills since the beginning of the school year.  Their progress, hard work, and efforts are certainly impressive.  Please be sure to check out this week’s Facebook post which features our amazing children!

The town’s deliberative session will take place tomorrow, February 5 at Hampton Academy.  This will begin at 8:30 AM in the gymnasium. The deliberative session for the school’s warrant articles will take place on Monday, February 7 with a snow date of Thursday, February 10.  The sessions will also take place at Hampton Academy beginning at 7:00 PM in the gymnasium.  Registered voters will consider the posted warrants for the annual meeting. The second session of the annual meeting, the traditional voting day, will be on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.  Voting takes place at Winnacunnet High School Dining Hall.  Polls are open from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM.  Absentee ballots may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office at the Hampton Town Hall during their regular office hours as late as Monday, March 7, 2022.

The positivity rates in Rockingham County, the Seacoast, and our state continue to decline.  The positivity rate in Rockingham County is currently at 16% down from 18% last week and the Seacoast positivity rate is at 14% down from 16% last week.  Hampton currently has 85 active cases down from 117 active cases last week.   As I write, there are 5 new cases at Centre School, 5 new cases at Marston School, and 7 new cases at Hampton Academy since last week.  Again, our numbers are trending downward which is fantastic news for our community.  Although case counts continue to be significantly high, we are moving in the right direction. Remember to stay home, if you are sick and to get tested. You can make the difference!

Wishing everyone a safe and warm winter weekend ahead!
