Weekly Update

January 28, 2022

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

This week, the learning continues in all of our schools. I had the opportunity to visit Hampton Academy this week where they were hard at work.  I also had the pleasure of attending their Spelling Bee which was held after school on Tuesday.  All of the students did an impressive job representing their grade level.  However, there can only be one winner!  And that was AJ Homicz who will move on and represent the school in the regional finals held on February 26 in Concord at the Capitol Center for the Arts. Special thanks to everyone who participated and best of luck to AJ!

As a district, we continue to find ways to promote social-emotional learning and the well-being of our students and staff.  We are committed to making the world a better place by creating safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities.  As part of our work, we encourage respect and kindness so that everyone feels welcomed so they can do their best.  To that end, we encourage all of our families to consider participating in the Great Kindness Challenge.  We know that Marston School participates in this yearly event, however, we challenge everyone to make this not just a weekly event in January but a daily way of being.  By being kind to others, we in turn lift up ourselves and make the world a better place for all!  Please see the attached flyer to participate!

As many of you know, the Town of Hampton is currently updating its Master Plan, a long-range planning document that guides future growth, development, conservation, and infrastructure investment over the years to come.  As part of the outreach phase of this project, the Town is coordinating a virtual community conversation series to discuss issues, opportunities, challenges, and ideas for the future of Hampton.  Please review the attached flyer for more information.

The positivity rates in Rockingham County, the Seacoast, and our state continues to decline.  The positivity rate in Rockingham County is currently at 18% down from 24% last week and the Seacoast positivity rate is at 16% down from 21% last week.  Hampton currently has 117 active cases down from 146 active cases last week.   As I write, there are 8 new cases at Centre School, 7 new cases at Marston School, and 12 new cases at Hampton Academy since last week.  This is great news for our community.  Although case counts continue to be significantly high, we continue to move in the right direction.
Remember to stay home if you are sick and to get tested.

Have you heard about Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Alison Griffin’s Starbooks Café at Marston School?  Please be sure to check out this video created by our very own Nick Giarrusso.  As a reminder, next Wednesday is an early release for students.

With the winter weather expected this weekend, remember to stay safe!

Warmly,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
Superintendent of SAU 90
