Weekly Update

September 8, 2023

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

We wish to thank everyone for persevering through a warm second week of school.  Summer officially ends on September 23 with the autumnal equinox.  However, we know that temperatures can fluctuate all year long.  With that in mind, we encourage our students to dress appropriately, stay hydrated, listen to their internal body cues, and to ask for help if they need assistance.  Some proactive steps that we have taken in schools include utilizing our best-ventilated spaces, limiting sun exposure and strenuous activity, reminding students to stay hydrated and providing water, and encouraging appropriate dress.  We were also pleased to host the Kona Ice Truck on Thursday!  Special thanks to Patti Curtis and our PTA volunteers for helping us to provide all students and staff with a refreshing treat! It certainly helped to lift our spirits while enjoying a break in our routine!  We are all grateful and appreciative to all of you who helped to make this happen at a moment’s notice!

As you are probably aware, the construction on High Street will be impacting our traffic flow to and from school.  We are continuing to reach out to the town and First Student so that we can continue to provide you with the most up-to-date information which is subject to change based on working conditions.  Currently, there are two routes that are being impacted.

  • Bus G will stop at Hobbs Road and Mace Road.

  • Bus I will stop at Windmill Lane and Winnacunnet Road.  Bus I can take a left on Moulton Road only.  Moulton Road and High Street are blocked off.

These stops will be reevaluated when the construction in this area changes.  We apologize for the inconvenience to our families.  We will continue to keep you updated as we are informed of changes.  Thank you for your attention to this matter your flexibility and patience as we know this impacts our families.

This week, I spent time visiting our youngest learners at Centre School.  Preschool started on Tuesday.  It was refreshing to see our “littles” in school and acclimating to a new school year.  Be sure to check out our Facebook post for a peek at Centre School students.

We continue to focus on the social-emotional learning of all of our students, and I was able to see Morning Meeting in action.  Our Centre and Marston School students begin their day with a morning meeting where they are greeted by their teachers and classmates, there is sharing of news and announcements, a greeting, and often a fun activity.  The purpose of these daily events is to provide our students with a sense of belonging, significance, purpose, and fun.  Each of our students is a valuable member of our community.  Our teachers and staff pride themselves on their relationship with their students as they strive to know each student individually.  As part of our beginning weeks in school, we are working with students to establish their hopes and dreams for the school year.  These are often revisited throughout the year to ensure that school is a meaningful experience for each student.

There are several forms that were sent out the first week of school.  Please be sure that you return these forms as soon as possible.  Remember our data is only as accurate as the information we have on file.  Please be sure to keep your information up to date.  We are asking all families to complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Form this year.  This helps with federal funding and ensures accuracies with accounting.

Last but certainly not least… the PTA is hosting Party next Saturday.  Please see the attached flyer!  Also, the PTA is hosting their annual mum’s sale with pickup on September 23 from 1-3 PM.  Please see the attached link.  Finally, remember to become a member of our PTA, if you have not already done so!

Next week is our first five-day week of the school year!! Remember to pace yourselves…

See you at the Seafood Festival,
