Weekly Update

August 31, 2023

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back to the 2023-2024 school year!  We have had a wonderful first week back, and there are so many wonderful memories that were created in these first days of school.  It is my pleasure to serve as your superintendent.  I have always held firm to the belief that we are partners in the educational process.  By working together with families, our students benefit and only then can they reach their full potential.  In my efforts to keep channels of communication open, I will be providing you with a weekly letter.  The purpose of the letter is to inform you of district news and events.  I would also like to assure you that I make it my business to visit schools every week so that I have a pulse on students and staff.  Additionally, if there is anything that I or my office can do to assist you, please feel free to contact us.  We are housed at the Adeline C. Marston School on Marston Way, and we can be reached at 603-926-4560.  Additionally, my email is lcosta@sau90.org.

What a terrific start we have had to the new year!  It was so nice to see so many happy faces on Monday during our Meet the Teacher!  Students and families seem eager to be back at school, visiting with their teachers, and connecting with their classmates.  On Tuesday, the school year officially began!  The excitement and energy in the school buildings and around the district was palpable!  Hampton Academy rung in the new year with their annual tradition of ringing the bell!  The youngest students, sixth graders, Alexa and Charles helped to usher in the new year as the bells sounded across the front lawn of Hampton Academy! Be sure to check out our schools and district Facebook for all the highlights!

Additionally on Tuesday, I was able to check in on our Kindergarten students at Centre, our third graders at Marston, and our sixth graders at Hampton Academy.  All our students who transitioned to their new school seemed to be happy, settling in, and excited to be in their classrooms.  At the start of a new school year, there is so much to learn – new teachers, new procedures, and new classmates.  Our students appear ready to learn and excited to take on these challenges.  We wish all our students a great beginning!

As you are probably aware by now, there will be ongoing construction on High Street in Hampton for the foreseeable future.  We have been in touch with Jennifer Hale from the Town Offices regarding updates to the project, potential delays, and detours. Please be advised that travel to and from school could be impacted by this.  We ask that you allow the additional time in the mornings and afternoons, exercise caution, and be patient as we work through the project.  We will be providing updates as they are received.

At SAU 90, we know how important it is to talk to the right people to solve problems.  We thought it would be important to share our communication chain with you to ensure you are connected to the right person.  When you need information, clarification, or an answer for something related to a school, it is best to reach out to the main office secretary.  They will be able to direct you to the point person who will best be able to assist.  Otherwise, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or case manager, school counselor, or school administrator (assistant principal or principal), in that order.  If you need further assistance, you are then welcome to contact the director of special education services or me. We are hoping these guidelines will help to facilitate an efficient response.

In closing, there is so much hope and possibility for the year ahead.  We are happy to work with all of our stakeholders, and we will continue to honor those relationships.  To that end, we recognize that there were some busing issues this past week.  We are working with First Student to remedy these as soon and swiftly as possible.  We are grateful for their responsiveness to our needs!

Please enjoy a long sunny weekend ahead!  We look forward to seeing students on Tuesday.

Warmest wishes for a great school year,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
