Weekly Update

June 16, 2023

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

It is with great pride that our school year comes to an end today. What a wonderful week we have had with our students, families, and community. Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the Winnacunnet High School Graduation. It was thrilling to see that five of the top ten graduates were from the Hampton School District, along with the senior class president, class secretary, the student body vice-president, and secretary. What a wonderful evening for our community! Last night, we held our Final Assembly for our eighth graders on the Hampton Academy lawn under the tent. Early in the day, we hosted our Fifth Grade Farewell at Marston School. These culminating milestones allowed us the opportunity to celebrate our students, thank our staff and families, and recognize the hard work that went into this past year. Our sincere gratitude to all of our families and staff for their continued support this year. It takes a village…and I am proud that mine is Hampton!

This past week at our school board meeting, we recognized four of our five outstanding educators who will be retiring at the end of the school year. These amazing educators have approximately 100 years combined of service to the Hampton School District. They leave behind a legacy of students, parents, and colleagues who they have all positively impacted during this time. We wish them all the best as they move forward and begin retirement. These staff members include Kindergarten teacher Barbara Garand from Centre School, Paraeducator Leslie Hartley from Centre School, Paraeducator Ann Hagerstrom from Hampton Academy, School Psychologist Dr. Les Masterman from Hampton Academy and Assistant Principal Bridget Hughes from Hampton Academy. We thank them for their years of service and congratulate them on their successful tenure in our district.

A few updates from our valued partners…The Hampton PTA has set a date for Party on the Park, which has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 16. Please mark your calendars! This promises to be a fantastic day filled with music, magic, and great food. Also, First Student is hiring. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Finally, the Southern District YMCA is planning programs for the fall. If you are interested in having your child attend, please be sure to sign up. Early planning will allow for a program the begins at the start of the school year. A flyer is attached for more information.

On behalf of the district, I wish you all a wonderful, well-deserved summer. May it be filled with happy memories, time at our beautiful beaches, and good health. Our district is open daily from 8 AM – 2:00 PM, Monday – Thursday, and 8 AM – 12 noon on Friday. If you need anything at all, please feel free to reach out to your child’s principal or me. Also, names for next year’s teachers will be released in August. Be on the lookout for that information. In closing, please mark your calendar! School begins on Tuesday, August 29. Meet the Teacher will be on Monday, August 28.

Wishing all our dads and father-figures a wonderful day on Sunday!

Warmly, Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
