Weekly Update

February 24, 2023

Dear Parents, Staff, and Families of SAU 90:

Although, we have had a mild winter, we know that the coming weeks can bring unsettled weather.  Like this week, earlier on we had very warm temperatures only to be hit with mixed precipitation and a storm on Thursday.  With that said, we will keep our eye to the sky to be sure we are being mindful of the safety of our community.  Canceling school, delaying the start, or providing an early release day are decisions we do not take lightly.  Keeping the best interest and the safety of everyone, these decisions are made in collaboration with First Student, town officials, SAU 21, and even the National Weather Service/Homeland Security Emergency Management.

It has been a very busy week here as we gear up for the winter break.  Students have been working hard in their classes as units wrap up and assessments are completed.  During my walk through earlier in the week, I saw first-hand the complicated math students were working on, reading assessments being administered, problem solving in STEAM, and engaging literacy lessons and activities.  Be sure to check out our Facebook post which features our Marvelous Marston Students hard at work.

The PTA met this week at the Community Center at Hampton Academy.  During that time, Finance Director, Mariah and I had the opportunity to review the warrant articles which the town will consider at the polls on March 14.  The PTA is offering some wonderful, exciting events for our families in the coming weeks.  On April 3rd, the Harlem Wizards will be coming to Hampton.  The event will take place at Winnacunnet High School with doors opening at 5:30 PM, and the show starting at 6:30 PM.  Volunteers are needed for this event.  Also, the Hampton PTA will benefit from a portion of the proceeds at The Brook in Seabrook from April 20-29.  We recognize that this falls over the spring break.  However, for those of you who have a Staycation planned, there will be a Comedy Night on April 27 for adults featuring Josh Day.  And, last but certainly not least, we are hoping to have a complementary Party on the Park for families on June 3.  There is lots of great entertainment planned for this event as well.  The PTA could use some volunteers to assist with these wonderful activities that benefit our community.  If you are able to assist, please reach out to the Event Coordinators, Sarah Elliott at Sarah.lw.elliott@gmail.com  or Erika York at erikamyork@gmail.com.  Many hands make for light work!

Thursday, March 2 is the official Read Across America date, which is also the birthday of beloved children’s book author, Theodor Geisel, or the great Dr. Seuss.  We celebrate literacy everyday here in our schools knowing the impact reading and writing has on student learning and success!  To that end, there will be some great activities planned with our students and the schools when we return from the break.  In honor of this day, we encourage everyone to read a great book over the winter break.

Warmly,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent
