Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,
Our greatest responsibility is to ensure the safety of our schools, which is both a district-goal and school-based goal. Specifically, this goal states that we will work to create and maintain a clean, healthy, physically, social emotionally safe learning environment. As part of our work, prior to the start of the school year, we met with our stakeholders from all three schools to determine our scope of this work. As the superintendent, student safety is and continues to be our greatest priority.
Recent heavy snowfall has significantly reduced parking capacity, making arrival and dismissal more challenging—particularly at Centre School. Please exercise extra caution during these times. We are currently evaluating both short-term and long-term solutions to address the parking shortage and appreciate your patience. The safety of our school community is contingent upon everyone doing their part.
It was recently brought to my attention that racist and unkind remarks have occurred at our middle school. I want to be very clear: disparaging remarks regarding skin color, ethnic background, culture, or identity will not be tolerated. Every student has the right to feel respected and safe. I ask that you speak with your children about the power of their words and the importance of ensuring everyone feels they belong in our community. Safety is a collaborative effort involving our staff, SROs, and families. Please continue to encourage your children to speak with a trusted adult if they see or hear anything that jeopardizes the safety or well-being of others. Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our schools a place where all students can thrive.
We continue to find ways to promote social emotional learning and the well-being of our students and staff. We are committed to making the world a better place by creating safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities. As part of our work, we encourage respect and kindness so that everyone feels welcomed so they can do their best. We encourage all our families to consider participating in the Great Kindness Challenge, not just next week but every day! Marston School participates in this yearly event, however, we challenge everyone to make this a daily way of being. By being kind to others, we in turn lift-up ourselves and make the world a better place for all!
As a reminder our town deliberative session is tomorrow, January 31 starting at 8:30 AM in the Hampton Academy Auditorium, and the school’s deliberative session is Wednesday, February 4 in the Hampton Auditorium starting at 7 PM.
Warmly,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
Superintendent of SAU 90
