Superintendent Weekly Newsletter

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

This week, I had the privilege of visiting Marston School, where staff are working diligently to reinforce expectations. Our core expectations for student success center on being safe, being respectful, and being responsible.  This focus on a positive and consistent learning environment is being supported at the district level through the development of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework.  Morning meeting, closing circle, logical consequence, and lunchtime talks are all a part of our Responsive Classroom approach. This student-centered, evidence-based approach to learning and discipline integrates social emotional learning with academic instruction.

As October is National Bullying Prevention Month, our schools have intensified their focus on this critical issue. We are addressing this through the implementation of specific prevention rules, targeted lessons, and activities designed to foster prosocial behaviors and reduce instances of bullying. We view our work with families as essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of every student; please do not hesitate to reach out to your school if we can provide any support to your child or family.

At our School Board meeting this past week, we discussed House Bill 1300 which will be on the November 3 ballot.  The School Board is offering a Public Hearing  on Wednesday, October 21, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at Marston School Cafeteria to discuss this further.  We hope you are able to join us.

In partnership,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of Schools
